Insurance, Warranty & Repairs

General Information

  1. Insurance
    1. In the case of theft or loss, the parent will be expected to cover the replacement cost of the device and associated peripherals. Parents should note the device on their personal Home and Contents insurance policy to the value of $1,470.00, excluding GST.
  2. Equipment
    1. Device details
      1. The make and model of the computer is an HP Elite x2. Each computer is identifiable by a unique serial number, which you may wish to note for insurance purposes.
    2. Device ownership
      1. The College retains ownership of the computer.
      2. All material on the computer is subject to review by authorised College staff.
      3. If the student leaves the College, the computer must be returned to the College before the departure of the student.
    3. Damage or theft/loss
      1. All computers are covered by a manufacturer's warranty (i). The warranty covers manufacturing defects and normal use of the computer. It does not cover negligence, abuse, or malicious damage.
      2. All computers are covered by a Three Year Accidental Damage Protection (ADP) plan. This plan covers repairs associated with accidental breakage caused from drops and falls etc. It does not cover negligence, abuse, or malicious damage. Under the ADP agreement, the devices will be covered for three major repairs for every year, for three years. The cost of ADP $60.50 inc GST.
      3. In the case of loss or accidental damage, a ADP Incident Report Form signed by a parent/carer must be provided. Forms can be downloaded from the website.
      4. Any problems, vandalism, damage, loss, or theft of the device must be reported immediately to the College.
      5. In the case of suspected theft, a police report must be made by the family, and an event number (Police report) provided to the College. Replacement cost for lost or stolen equipment is the responsibility of the family. Each family is responsible for the insurance of the computer in their possession.
      6. If a device is damaged or lost by neglect, abuse or malicious act, the College will determine whether replacement is appropriate, and whether or not the student retains access to a device for home use.
      7. If damage of the device is determined by the ADP provider to be malicious or non-accidental in nature, parents will be responsible for the full cost of the repairs. A form for the lodgement of an Accidental Damage claim is available from the website for download.
    4. Substitution of equipment
      1. When a device is replaced, all efforts are made to replace it with one of a similar age. Any associated peripherals supplied by the College remain the property of the College. Graffiti on the device, device bags, or peripherals, will not be accepted and considered wilful damage to College property. Permanently marking or causing damage to the equipment will result in costs being charged to the parent account for replacement.
      2. If a replacement computer is to be purchased to replace a lost or stolen unit, the College will source the equivalent education-model device from a supplier of the College's choosing. While a similar model may appear to be available through retail outlets, there are often differences in specification which make retail models an unsuitable replacement to our financier.
    5. Return of equipment
      1. The College will periodically request the return of the computer and accessories for software and/or hardware upgrades. It is expected that the computer and accessories remain in excellent physical condition, without any vandalism or physical damage. Any computer hardware issued to a student must be returned before the conclusion of the enrolment of the student.
